Are you interested in learning more about Capoeira? Never heard of it? Maybe you’ve tried other forms of Capoeira and are now interested in Capoeira Angola? Not sure where to start? Come to a beginner's class!
Taught by Hélio Souza, a student of Mestre Jogo de Dentro, these classes explore the foundations of Capoeira Angola, its roots in African martial arts traditions, its growth as an underground resistance movement amongst Afro-Brazilians, and its transformations at the hands of the youtube generation. Join us to explore the foundations of movement, song, instrumentation, history, community and philosophy of Capoeira Angola.
This is not a lecture series. You will learn as you sweat. You will make music. You will push your limits, and maybe even surprise yourself. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
Class times: Tuesdays, 8:00pm - 10:00pm Bavia Arts – 898b St. Clair Ave. West).
Saturdays, 11:30am - 1:30pm (Bavia Arts – 898b St. Clair Ave. West).
Fee: $20/class, $100/month.
